Dear Visitors-At the Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council, our mission is to develop an infrastructure to maximize access and utilization of health services and to leverage available resources to assure improved health status for our residents. In keeping with this mission, our partners are constantly looking for ways to serve you better with added services and extended hours as funding becomes available. Below you will see a summary of the most recent progress:
• J. C. Lewis Health Center has received a new federal designation as a community health center. This designation and the accompanying funding will allow the center to serve an additional 1500 patients. In addition, funds have been awarded to expand services to include an optometry clinic, podiatry clinic and expanded hours. As personnel are hired to begin these services, look for the hours and location on Breaking News.
• Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care has been awarded funds to add additional nurses and case managers to the staff. Plans are underway to develop a new site within public housing and to become a technologically up-to-date center with the adoption of electronic medical records.
• Contact the Community Cardiovascular Council for information on the recently launched Medicare Diabetes Screening Program or MDSP. People who are ages 65 and older and have one risk factor for diabetes may receive free diabetes-screening in a health care provider's office with no deductible and no co-pay.
