Savannah, GA – On February 20, 2017, J.C. Lewis Dental Center provided 33 children in the Savannah area with free dental care as part of the ADA Foundation’s Give Kids A Smile Program, a nationwide program launched in 2003 that brings dentists and other volunteers together to provide screenings, treatment, and education to children throughout the United States.

The event was successfully carried out by dedicated professionals — Dr. Nichole Madison, DDS and Dr. A. Jolly Howard, DDS , Dental Manager Suprena Joiner, and Dental Staff including Dawanda Polite-Joyner, Lisa Martin, Ranisha Richey, and Isamar Santos. Partners and vendors included PeachState Health, Wellcare, Healthy Kids Campaign, and Angela Beasley’s Puppet People.

J.C. Lewis Primary Healthcare Center has hosted Give Kids A Smile events for five years in the community as a way to provide free dental care to local qualifying children who desperately need it. Stay tuned for a summer date for this year before the kids return to school!

Nearly one in four children under the age of five already has cavities, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many children enrolled in Medicaid receive no dental services throughout the year.

It is important to raise awareness of the epidemic of untreated dental disease occurring locally and nationally and create local public and private partnerships to increase access to oral health care to solve this crisis.

Besides helping children, the J.C. Lewis Dental Center (next to J.C. Lewis Primary Health Center) provides the following preventive, restorative and emergency oral health services to adults:

  • Prophylaxis (Prophy)
  • Fluoride Treatment
  • Sealants
  • Oral health education
  • Dentures
  • Partials
  • Bridges
  • Composite Fillings
  • Amalgam Fillings
  • Root canals
  • Permanent Crowns
  • Extractions

Services are provided at an affordable rate to qualifying insured, uninsured, and homeless persons with limited income. Picture ID, proof of income (WG-15 form if they are unemployed) and verification forms (homeless) are required at the time of service to determine eligibility. Cash and credit cards are accepted. No personal checks. While walk-in care is open daily, patients with appointments are seen first. To find out more information or schedule an appointment, please call J.C.
